Canvas is generally regarded as being one of the toughest fabrics around. Naturally, some of the best camping backpacks available are made of canvas. Anyone who is serious about the outdoors should definitely get their hands on a high quality canvas backpack.
But what kind of backpack should you buy? Well, canvas backpacks are commonly put into one of three categories: frameless, internal frame, and external frames. I will go over each one and let you know what they are designed for. Hopefully this will help you pick out the perfect backpack for your needs.
Frameless
Frameless backpacks are the most common type among the general public. They are the typical school bag, consisting of a main compartment and two shoulder straps. However, camping canvas backpacks usually come with extra compartments and chest/waist straps. A major drawback of frameless backpacks is that the shoulder strap design can negatively affect your posture if you carry more than 30 pounds. Frameless designs also restrict the motion of your upper body. Because of this, they are generally used for recreational camping at a campground. It would be too uncomfortable to do any serious hiking with one of these. If that’s your thing, you will have to get your hands on a framed backpack.
Internal Frame
Internal frames are actually a recent innovation, having been invented in 1967. Basically, canvas is stretched around a frame which is usually made out of aluminum, plastic, or titanium. A frame supports the pack and distributes its weight to the hips and legs. This takes a lot of pressure off of your shoulders and allows you to carry more with a smaller chance of injury.
Because the frame is inside the actual backpack, these fit close to your back. This provides mobility and is desirable if your activity involves a lot of upper body motion. However, there is less ventilation and a common complaint is sweat. The major drawback, however, is that it’s difficult to lash larger items to the outside of the pack. If you are a hardcore hiker who travels heavy, you might want to consider an external frame. Generally internal frames are designed for day hikes and the like.
External Frame
External frame canvas backpacks are the dedicated hiker’s best friend. The frame itself is usually made from aluminum and has a series of straps/netting that prevents the frame from contacting the user’s back. The actual canvas pouch is smaller than the internal frames but the real reason hikers love these are the exposed frame areas above and below the pack. The extra room allows you to attach vital camping gear such as your tent and sleeping bag. Sometimes, the pack can be removed entirely which allows the individual to customize his load the way he/she wants.
As you can probably tell, these are designed for the very dedicated hikers out there. If you are new to the whole outdoors thing, I wouldn’t pick one of these up. Stick with the internal frames.
Whether you are just a recreational camper or a hardcore hiker, there will always be a canvas backpack available that will suit your needs. All you have to do is decide what you will be using it for the most, and choose the category that fits the best. Frameless packs for the family camping trips, internal frames for the day hikes, and external frames for the advanced, overnight hikes. May you enjoy all of your outdoor adventures with your new canvas camping backpack!

The kerosene heater is viewed by many as a heating source of the long forgotten past. However, it can still be a very inexpensive and effective heating source in some situations. Camping, for instance, is a great setting for the use of this type of heat source since nights in the wilderness can often get nippy.
There are many different sizes and styles of kerosene heaters available on the market today, all with large BTU output. This means you should be able to find something as big or as small as you need to keep your tent heated and toasty warm throughout the night.
Kerosene is a relatively cheap fuel to consume when electricity just isn’t available. It can be stored for long periods of time so there is no waste if you happen to purchase more fuel than you use on your outdoor adventure. As long as it is kept in its proper container and stored away from food and other consumables you should be able to use kerosene fuel for well over a year after it has been purchased.
Many consider them to be a much safer alternative to gas heating systems as well since there is lesser risk of injury from fume inhalation or accidental fire. Typically if a kerosene model gets knocked over it will just go out, as compared to a gas heater that might explode.
There are also very portable devices to use for travel. All you have to do is pack your portable kerosene heater with the rest of your camping gear, fill it with fuel when you’re ready to use it and then light it. In a matter of seconds it will be putting off waves of warmth in your sleeping area so you can sit back and relax.
There are no wires and cords to worry about tripping over, there is no pilot light to fight with and there is no long wait period for heat to start radiating either. Fill it and forget so you can get on with having fun in the great outdoors with your friends and family.
When you’re done hiking, fishing and climbing for the day you can kick back by your kerosene heater and read a book, have a pleasant conversation with friends and family or just snuggle up and get a good night’s rest. In the morning, one flip of a switch and the heater will turn off without you having to throw dirt on it like you would have to for a campfire.
You’ll be very appreciative of the fact that you didn’t have to go out and find firewood, struggle getting a fire to start and then get up and down all night to keep it going. While people in other campsites are busy doing this you are busy dreaming next to your own warm and cozy heat source.

Portable outdoor heaters are a useful addition to any venue where cooler temperatures are expected. They operate on either electricity or gas and can be carried or rolled to wherever they are needed. To determine the best type of portable heater to own, several things need to be taken into consideration such as the fuel the heater uses, the type and style of the heater, and the size of the unit.
The first decision to be made is the type of fuel to be used. For instance, in a camping scenario, a portable electric heater would not be the best option since electricity is probably not an available commodity. Each type of fuel has its own strengths and weaknesses, but a portable gas heater will usually work best. Propane is the ultimate in portability since it comes in self-contained gas bottles. The bottle is simply attached to the heater which is then immediately ready to run. A propane heater is also very powerful in comparison to electric heaters. Propane, however, is more expensive than electricity per BTU. Furthermore, an electric heater will never run out of fuel to make heat as long as it remains plugged in. The downside of using an electric heater is that a powerful model often requires special thick extension cords and dedicated home circuits to prevent a possible electrical fire, which is a non issue for gas heaters.
The second consideration when buying portable space heaters is the application of the device. For instance, a heater which is meant for use by mechanics in freezing weather may not be the most appropriate option for an outdoor party. Portable heaters come in many shapes and styles and can suit the needs of almost any outdoor heating application. There are portable heaters which look like lamps that can serve as the decorative centerpiece of an outdoor table for a cozy evening get-together. There are also tall, tower-like heaters for making entire patios comfortably warm in cool weather. There are also specially designed camping heaters that are perfect for your outdoor adventures. Finally, of course, there are purely utilitarian heaters for mechanics and contractors. It is the customer’s choice as to the application.
The third and final consideration is the size of the outdoor portable heater. A tabletop heater is not going to provide heat enough to cover an outdoor party just as a powerful pole-type heater is unnecessary for something the size of a card table. An oversize heater will cost more and waste the heat it provides to the environment while an undersized heater will leave guests chilly. It is therefore up to the consumer to select the most appropriate size for the desired application.
In all, there are several factors to consider when purchasing a portable outdoor heater. These versatile sources of comfort are an essential for any cooler outdoor setting and will serve well to make outdoor entertaining a breeze.

Gas heaters are a powerful and safe form of outdoor warmth. They do not require electricity so they can be used just about anywhere consumer gas is available. There are two main types of fuels used in gas heaters which determine their portability and placement options. These two fuels are propane and natural gas.
Propane gas heaters are more versatile than natural gas heaters. Since propane is available to the consumer in gas bottles, many propane heaters are small enough to be moved to wherever they are needed. However, this convenience comes at the higher price of propane compared to natural gas.
Small propane heaters are the perfect portable gas heater. They have no cords and often mount directly to a propane tank, eliminating the need for any hoses. They are easily controlled by the gas regulators which are fairly standard. Unlike electric heaters, a propane heater typically requires outdoor use to prevent the build-up of carbon monoxide. However, unlike their electrical counterparts, the consumer can easily acquire very powerful propane heaters without the need for a special circuit installed in a home.
The small propane heater is perfect for heating an outdoor workspace such as a garage or barn to allow work to be done in colder temperatures. Small propane heaters also find use as camping heaters and are perfect for heating your tent or RV. Due to the extreme portability and the self-contained nature of propane heaters, they fit easily into luggage and can be carried to wherever they are needed.
Natural gas heaters are suitable wherever a gas heater can be a permanent structure. Most homes have a natural gas connection for running appliances such as a furnace, water heater, and stove. Natural gas lines can easily be run through a backyard to supply heaters with gas. The need for these pipes means that almost all natural gas powered heaters are permanent structures. These structures are typically installed as pole-mounted structures which provide heat for a large area. Permanent units fall perfectly into place at the edges of patios and grilling areas where frequent cool-weather activity takes place.
Natural gas heat is generally less expensive than propane, although the cost of installing a permanent structure may offset this. However, with natural gas heaters, the work involved with changing and refilling tanks is eliminated – a bonus for anyone who may be unable to do so. Natural gas heaters also come in many shapes and styles which can accent any patio decor.
In summary, an outdoor gas heater is an economical way to heat any outdoor space. They can provide a great amount of heat for their size and cost, and provide both the extreme portability needed for camping and the solid, brute power to keep an entire patio party nice and toasty.

Outdoor electric heaters are a perfect way to make an otherwise unusable space warm enough to utilize during the colder months. There are two main types of outdoor electric heaters – fixed and portable. Each of these types has its own advantage
Fixed outdoor heaters can be very powerful as they are wired by a professional electrician directly into a structure’s power system. They can be placed in the ceilings of patios and gazebos to provide a comfortable environment in inclement weather. These types of units are usually rated at over 1000 watts and provide a substantial amount of heat over a large area using infrared rays. These units are common in places like ice rinks, ER receiving areas, and venues which are open in cold weather but require patrons to wait outside. These models often include dimmers to adjust the amount of heat output for the perfect outdoor experience.
Portable electric heaters have their own uses. There are two types of heaters to look for if you are considering purchasing a portable electric heater: fancy and utilitarian. The utilitarian variety are extremely helpful for working on automobiles in the winter months or for providing warmth in barns, stables, and other semi-outdoor environments. The advantage of portability allows the user to direct warmth where it is needed most. Portable models are usually smaller than fixed models and enjoy the benefit of tucking neatly into a closet when not needed.
Fancier portable models are often used as an electric patio heater to be the centerpiece of outdoor tables and provide gentle heat to warm a game of cards on a cool spring evening. These models are designed to look less like a heater and more like something else – typically a lamp. Some models are built into lamps and serve both purposes. There are also semi-portable versions of these models which can be attached to patio tables for additional stability. These types of heaters are perfect for outdoor entertaining since they can be switched on at arm’s reach from the table – the ultimate in convenience.
Portable electric heaters are usually more cost effective than built-in models. These heaters, however, will require more maintenance and know-how. A built-in electric space heater can simply be flicked on with a switch, but a portable one will need an extension cord. Heaters are inherently power-hungry devices, so heavy-gauge cords must be used to prevent a possible electrical fire. The user must also pay attention to the current rating of the house circuit to avoid tripping a breaker or blowing a fuse. Furthermore, electricity and water make a dangerous combination. Portable heaters should be kept well away from sinks, tubs, hoses, and other wet areas unless otherwise specified by the manufacturer.
In conclusion, an outdoor electric heater is the ultimate solution for convenient and clean heat. These heaters will serve well to increase the utility of many types of outdoor areas in cold weather for only a small addition to your electric bill.

Trailers are used to haul many different items from one place to the next. New trailers are expensive and if you use one occasionally a used one will last you many years. A used trailer will save you money and do the job as well as a new one.
Trailers are used to haul many things and the design of the trailer changes with what you are hauling. There are totally enclosed trailers that are good to haul items that cannot get wet. These trailers are good choices for construction workers hauling a lot of tools. They also will protect material used by the carpenter. Enclosed trailers are used by plumbers to haul materials and tools to and from the job site. Electricians also make an enclosed trailer useful hauling their equipment. When looking at used travel trailers check the metal work as well as wheel bearings. These are the biggest problems in this type of trailer.
Flatbed trailers are used to haul many items. There are single axle flatbed trailers used to haul ATVs, motorcycles, snowmobiles, and other small items. If you would only use one occasionally a used trailer will last many years. Some of these trailers have wood decks and others have metal decks. Aluminum decks will last longer than the rest of the trailer will. When buying a used trailer like this check the deck and the bearings.
Tandem axle trailers will haul larger items. They will haul cars, tractors, and pieces of equipment. If you are not a professional, used utility trailers will be perfect for the occasional haul. You can get them with a bumper hitch or a fifth wheel hitch. Check the deck on these trailers and make sure they are rated to haul the weight you want to haul. A tandem axle trailer will haul many recreational vehicles.
Used horse trailers will last many years if you take care of them. Keep them clean so they do not rust. Livestock trailers are covered with slatted sides to let air in. You can find many different sizes of used livestock or horse trailers. Some will haul one horse and others will haul many animals.
Boat trailers are an expensive item new. Used boat trailers are good investments as they do not depreciate like new ones. If they are in good condition they will give you enjoyment for many years.
If you are purchasing a used trailer make sure it will haul what you want. Make sure it is sound and not rusted out. Check the wiring before pulling the trailer on a major road so it will be safe. Most used trailers need lights and reflectors unless the lights from the vehicle pulling it are in sight. A lifetime license can be acquired for most trailers. Make sure the used trailer has a title so it can be transferred to you.

The average person is not water proof. The average rain jacket or waterproof poncho is, however. That is why on windy, stormy days, a waterproof rain jacket or rain poncho is essential. Nothing can seem worse than showing up drenched to the office or to school.
How does a rain jacket keep a person dry? It is made with water-proof fabric. That means when precipitation finds its way under an umbrella, the person beneath is sprayed, but not wet. It means when arriving at one’s destination, all that needs to be done to appear as if outside it were a comfortable, spring day is the removal of one’s light rain jacket. After hanging it up with everyone else’s water-proof armor, it is easy to tell who left theirs at home.
Rain jackets offer other valuable components as well. Generally, at least two huge pockets are available to be home to the types of extras carried on a rainy day. Beanie caps, bulky gloves, a mid-sized umbrella, and even a small purse can each fit in one of these pockets. Mostly, however, the pockets are used to give hands a little extra warmth from that intemperate weather. This feature of a rain jacket means that its owner will be carrying less, and will arrive that much sooner. It means that these pockets’ cargo will arrive as dry as the wearer.
Style though, is important (especially for a women’s raincoat). Typically, style is the pivotal factor– the deal maker or breaker– when one is shopping for a rain jacket or PVC raincoat. That is why there are so many forms of so many functions. Hoods are great, but not all the time, and that is why so many jackets come with hoods that can be removed and reattached. Some jackets are lined with cotton and other fabrics adding to their respective weights (great for cold weather), and others are no more than a light nylon. In either case, rain jackets come in all colors, and in all color-combinations, ensuring that a person in the market will find something not only suited to the obvious need, but to his/her tastes as well.
Also, some of the technology on these jackets is pretty amazing. Types of mesh are used to ensure even the heaviest of the jackets remain breathable, so the wearer stays warm without sweating. And even a lightweight rain jacket can protect against the heaviest of downpours. Sleeves and seams come reinforced to prevent rips and tears, and some of the fabrics themselves are space-age. Zippers and drawstrings are still around, of course, providing the comforts they provide so well, and in total today’s wearers are drier and more comfortable than ever.
That’s what it boils down to. Dryness is important, but comfort is invaluable. Comfort means that after arriving, one can provide the best in themselves to those around them. It means less wasted time, and in a finite world, what can be more invaluable than that?

Just because you will be outdoors, that doesn’t mean you have to totally rough it, or be like in the stone ages. Whether you are going camping, having a picnic at the beach, going to an outdoor concert, taking the boat out on the lake, or even having a gathering in your own back yard, a camping table will come in handy. They are great for muddy condition so you don’t have to sit everything on the ground. Once you get one, you will wonder what you ever did without it.
Everyone thinks of chairs, but overlooks a table. It can be used for so many things. The most obvious is to eat on. However, it can be used as a side table for drinks, a buffet table, to set up a portable stove for cooking, or used to play cards or board games. There are many different types of tables, in different sizes, shapes, price ranges, and made from different materials. The style you choose will depend on many different factors such as, what it will be used for, how many people it will need to accommodate, and whether or not it will be carried for a hike, or simply taken out of a vehicle.
Most camp tables are made of either a lightweight steel, aluminum, mesh, canvas, ripstop polyester, wood, or a combination of materials such as, steel or aluminum legs or frame, with a mesh or canvas surface. These materials are good for the outdoors because they can stand up well in the elements and to use. Some are even heat-resistant for hot pots or things of that nature. You can also find folding camping tables that have collapsible legs that fold flat against the top, or the legs could be unscrewed, then table top would roll up and be put into a carrying bag along with the legs. On some styles, the legs will be adjustable to accommodate an uneven ground.
The camp table can have features like built-in beverage holders or pockets. Some will have an umbrella that can be attached to provide shade from the sun, or protection from a sudden rain shower like a folding beach chair. Many styles will also have matching chairs, or benches, to create a set. There is even a table with shorter legs that can be used if you are sitting on the ground, on a blanket at the beach, if you have low chairs, or for the children.
Camping tables do come in different weights, so if you are going to be hiking to a campsite, or walking for a long distance, you will want a portable camping table. If you will simply be unloading it from your vehicle or camper, then weight won’t be as much of an issue. Also, be aware of the weight limit, or weight capacity of your table, as some will hold more than others. Because there are so many different varieties, sizes, and styles to choose from, you may want several different camping tables for different purposes.

Spring is finally here and now everyone is anticipating the closing of another school year with the unmistakable desire to pack up the car with the kids, the dog, and that 5-pound bag of potato chips that was purchased last night from Sam’s Club and embark on the annual family excursion. While there may be many destinations to choose from, it is camping that is probably the most enjoyable and fulfilling of them all. This is so because it brings the whole family together to not only have a good time, but also to instill responsibility through each member’s participation and emphasizes the importance to all of us in respecting and caring for the environment as well.
As a general rule there are two different types of campers RVer’s and tent campers. This article has been written for those who don’t mind ‘roughing it’. Although it seems overrun by the latter, tent camping is still quite popular among many families and this piece will hopefully be of use whether you are a first time camper, or a highly seasoned veteran of canvas and cord. It will touch on some of the options that you as campers have in the way of family tent types, colours, and brand names and will offer suggestions on other camping accessories as well.
Tent Brands
By far, the most popular name in anything pertaining to camping has got to be the Coleman name. A little over a century ago a man in Brockton, Alabama who went by the initials W.C. Coleman made a drastic change in careers when he switched from selling typewriters door-to-door to inventing the first reading lamp powered by gasoline. Along with all of the accessories that this company offers its customers, Coleman also has some outstanding family tents out on the market too. For instance, their ‘Montana Big Sky’ is an attractive set up in blue and white. Its 16 by 7 foot frame will sleep 4 to 5 people very comfortably and there is also a 6 man tent model available in orange and gray for slightly larger family groups. The pricing ranges from $180 – $300 depending upon where one is purchased. The Coleman family tent is arguable one of the best family tents on the market, but there are also other brands that will do just fine.
The brand name, Lichfield Cherokee Tents supposedly offers some quality products as well. They feature a 4 person tent in white, blue, and yellow that has a neat breezeway or porch for sitting in under with a small room on either side. Lichfield Cherokee family camping tents claim to be made out of lightweight materials that are easy to store, carry, and set up. Their tents also come with a ground cover, which is a good thing because that doesn’t generally come standard with most other tent brands. Pricing for this particular brand of tent is not mentioned on the site, however and because they are based out of the UK they are probably going to be a bit more if you are shopping from the states.
Tent Types
As far as tent types go, there are two that seem to be the most popular today. Canvas tents are made of a cloth-like material and are mainly used for sheltering a large amount of people or objects. Because of this, they aren’t that great for sleeping under, but they are perfect for sheltering an outdoor kitchen or something else along those lines.
The second type is the tents you would normally see on the campground. To be completely honest, I do not know exactly what they are made of, but I am sure a little bit of light research will clear that up if you are interested. These tents typically come in the classic dome shape we have come to know and love and you are way more likely to run into one of these than a canvas tent.
Some of the other accessories you might want to consider when going tent camping are propane lamps and a stove, cooking and eating ware that is made specifically for camping, air beds and a pump, fishing equipment, camping sleeping bags, and the list could go on and on. It is also good to have extra sheets, blankets, and pillows handy for the cooler camping season. Your local camping store will be able to assist you with any additional questions about the world of tent camping and how to go about purchasing a family camping tent.

The weather is getting warmer and for many people that means taking that saved vacation time and heading to the great outdoors. Whether you are a person who prefers to camp in a tent or one who uses a recreational vehicle, you will need all the necessary camping gear and cookware to make your trip a success. Let us explore all the necessary camping cookware you may need to take with you on your new adventure outdoors.
No camp is complete until you have a camping stove. If you have not shopped around lately for camping stoves, you will be amazed at the new camping stoves that allow campers, hunters and backpackers to travel lighter with canister and liquid stoves. These units have been designed to be lightweight, compact and use fuel more efficiently.
The dutch ovens sold in camping outlets are not like the old time dutch ovens we grew up with which were made of cast iron and heavy to carry, today they are made with cast aluminum and non stick coating. Dutch ovens would be the best choice for cooking over a campfire. They are excellent for roasting, frying, boiling, and stewing.
The general camp cookware of pots and pans come in various sizes, materials and storing capabilities. The fry pan comes in the sizes of 8 inches to 10 inches, the handle folds over for easy storage, and is constructed of aluminum with non-stick coating for easy clean up. For campers there is the steel non stick skillet available in 10 and 15 inches.
Depending on the size of your camp kitchen and the quantity of people you will be serving, camping outlets sell cook sets which are designed to accommodate a single camper or a family. For backpackers or hunters, there are camping cookware sets which conveniently pack all your cooking needs into one mesh bag. This set would include a small fry pan, bowl, and drinking cup. Cook sets for a family of six would have additional pans, plates, bowls and cups for each individual.
Storage of food items for camping is a vital part of camping cookware. Stores that sell camping cookware have a wide range of aluminum containers for food storage, and clear polycarbonate jars that are leak proof. The clear polycarbonate jars are available in the sizes of 2 ounces, on up to 32 ounces. Also available are containers for spices and health and beauty aids.
Another part of cookware for camping would be the cooking utensils. Camping outlets have compact kitchen sets which are lightweight, ideal for campers, backpackers and hunters. The kitchen kit set includes: 12 piece cutlery set, 2 squeeze bottles, salt and pepper shakers, telescoping spatula, telescoping spoon, Stainless Steel whisk and grater, cutting board, sponge, and camp towel all in a compact case for easy storage and carrying.
Now that we went over all the various types of camping cookware, you can begin to make your checklist for camping, hiking, or backpacking and purchase the necessary items you will need to make your outing more pleasurable whether it be individually or in a camping cookware set.

Camping tarps are large rectangular waterproof sheets that serve many purposes for hikers and campers. They come in a variety of sizes, materials, and colours (are you a blue tarp or white tarp person? Personally, I prefer the blue tarps). Tarps of all kinds generally have reinforced edges for durability, and metal grommets or nylon tie tabs so they can be attached to poles or trees.
Tarps serve many functions for the outdoor enthusiast. Tarps can provide shelter from rain or sun. A tarp over the picnic table can give shade on a hot day, or create a dry place for camp cooking during a downpour. Tarps can act as a wind break, making your camp site more comfortable on a blustery day. In crowded state campgrounds where sites are close together, strategically arranged tarps can also provide much needed privacy. A tarp of some kind is also essential as a ground cloth beneath your tent.
Before choosing a tarp, it is important to understand the performance you can expect from the various tarp materials available. Different types of tarps are suited for different purposes. If purchasing a tarp for use as a ground cover, it is also important to know the measurements of your tent and buy a tarp that is the appropriate size. Once you have considered the ways you will be utilizing a camping tarp and the size you need, it is easy to decide the type that is most appropriate.
Woven polyethylene tarps or poly tarps are widely available. These tarps, often bright blue in color, are laminated to protect them from the elements, making them waterproof and mildew resistant. They are also usually UV-resistant. Woven polyethylene tarps come in a variety of sizes and are inexpensive. These multipurpose tarps are particularly useful for covering gear, boats, and firewood.
Urethane-coated nylon heavy duty tarps are another option. These are also waterproof, but a heavier weight than the polyethylene version and thus more rugged and long-lasting. A nylon heavy duty tarp will work well as ground covers and as a temporary shelter. They perform well in high wind situations.
Silicone-impregnated rip stop nylon tarps are a favorite among backpackers. Due to the silicone, these tarps are the most waterproof on the market. They are also extremely lightweight, in some cases weighing only half as much as a traditional tarp of the same size. Silicone tarps are available in a variety of sizes and configurations; some are designed to be used as tent-like shelters, and others act as a waterproof poncho for backpackers on the trail. They pack down quite small and are usually sold with a stuff sack, making them easy to bring along on backpacking adventures.
Campers of any kind, from novices setting out to car camp at the local state park to experienced backpackers exploring remote locations, will find a use for some type of camping tarp.

If you want to experience the great outdoors and feel close to nature than nothing beats a camping tent. An RV may be the way many people prefer to travel but if you want to escape from your busy lifestyle and get back to nature why would you take the lifestyle with you? A camp tent adventure can take you places that an RV can never get to.
Camping tents don’t take up much space, and are normally easy to transport and carry. Most camp tents even come with their own carry bag that holds everything you need to erect your campsite once you have decided to stop for the night. You can even carry it with you on a hike and travel along hiking trails to destinations that can only be seen by walking their on foot. Imagine finding that perfect spot along an inland pond or lake that is secluded, lush vegetation and a great place to swim or fish and you have with you a camping tent.
Camping tents come in many shapes, colors and designs so you can choose from a small one or 2 man tent to a large 4 person tent or 6 man tent depending on the size of the party you need to house for your outdoor experience. Of course, if you need to sleep more than 5 or so people and you don’t want to buy more than one tent, you could always get a canvas tent. They are much larger than the normal tents you see and can sleep a lot more people.
Camping is a fun past time for the family to and a great way to get the children involved in the outdoor world around them. Make sure your camping tent is water repellent so it will hold up to any rainstorms or adverse weather. Most camping tents are already water repellent but you can buy a spray that will make it water repellent if yours isn’t.
Camping tents usually have an insect screen as part of the design to keep out the pest mosquitoes and any flies you may encounter. Many tents even come with screened windows and doors that you can open with just a pull of a zipper to let in some fresh air. Pop up camping tents are even available now that one person can erect and seem to nearly do all the work themselves. Many are so light that you may find yourself double checking your backpack to make sure you brought along your tent.
A great way to spend some quality time with your friends or family is certainly spending some time exploring the great outdoors in a family camping tent or even two. No distractions like television, computer, Internet or the dreaded Play Station, just you and nature. Take time to go fishing, hiking, swimming or just enjoy a night together around a campfire maybe seeing who can tell the best ghost stories. Isn’t it time you took time for yourself and enjoyed the natural world around you.

A pop up tent is a great choice to take on any trip where you need sleeping quarters, whether it is for one night or several nights. They also make a nice little beach tent. They are lightweight, and assemble quickly and easily. Because they come in such a wide array of sizes, materials, styles, and price points, there are many things to consider before you make your purchase.
The beauty of pop up tents is that they are an ingenious combination of being lightweight, they store flat in a case or backpack, and can be assembled within minutes. Unlike the traditional tents, there are no complicated set-up instructions, mess of poles, or even the need for more than one person for assembly. You simply remove it from the carrying case, and because of the flexible frame, it will spring into shape when you release the strap. The only assembly will be putting a few pegs into the ground and possibly tightening the attached ropes.
A pop up camping tent can come in all different sizes, so first you need to decide how many people will be sleeping in it. If you are single, or will be going on the trip by yourself, then obviously you will only need a 2 man pop up tent. However, if you are part of a couple, or have children, then you will need a larger tent, like a 4 man pop up tent, unless everyone will have their own 2 man tent. Unfortunately, I don’t think there is a pop up 6 man tent, so if you have a large family, you might want to buy a couple tents. You may also want additional room for items like food, or cooking supplies.
The next thing to consider is the season of the year, and the temperature when it will be used. While most people will be camping in the warmer months, there are some people who will need a tent that can provide protection from the elements, like cold and snow. Tents come in different fabrics for different needs. Nylon tents are light, a canvas tent is durable but heavy, and polyester will be good under extreme exposure to sun.
Obviously, the larger the tent, and the more specialized it is, then the more expensive it will be. A 4 person tent will likely be more expensive than a 2 person model. If it will only be used occasionally, then you will probably go for the less expensive model. Those who camp frequently may want to invest in more features. Anyone who uses the tent for extreme situations, like mountain climbing or sleeping in the snow, will want the top of the line model.
Some other things to consider are features like window flaps for ventilation, and mesh to keep the bugs outside. Because pop up tents come in an vast array of colors and patterns, you will need to decide if you want it to blend into the scenery, or stand out so it can be easily spotted in the forest or campground. A pop up play tent is great for children to play in because they can be set up in the back yard, or even indoors, and they have different themes and characters. With all the styles and features to choose from, there is sure to be a pop up tent that will suit everyone.

Camping equipment has been getting increasingly expensive these days. If your family enjoys camping, but you’re on a budget, it pays to know where to get some nice deals. In this article, I will tell you where you can buy some cheap tents and hopefully I can get you started on building your supply of camping gear.
Online
If you are comfortable using the internet, you have a huge advantage. With the proper amount of digging and knowledge, I believe you can find anything you want on the internet. This includes a cheap camping tent. There are plenty of independent sites out there willing to sell you their products, but I am wary of them. You never know who is on the other side of the website, and it is quite possible that some of these sites are scam sites. Lucky for you, there are little clues to look for that can help you determine if the site is legit or not. First, if the site looks like crap, I would get out before even looking at what they have to say. If they can’t put in the effort to make their site look decent, then I doubt they are willing to put in the effort to sell you quality tents. Second, look for buyer reviews or any other type of outside comments. If all you see is blind praise for the site, it is likely the webmaster wrote them his/herself or they deleted all the negative comments to hide their faults. A truly legit site will have a mix of positive and critical reviews.
If you don’t want to worry about that kind of nonsense, I would go to a site like Amazon or Ebay. You can find some really cheap camping tents on either site, and both of them are proven to be great and respectable websites for selling items. I have personally bought items from both of these sites and they have been great. I would lean more towards Ebay if you are looking to land some deals. Since it is other people selling the items and not companies, you can usually get items much cheaper.
Another plus about shopping online is that you can also shop for other camping items like camping sleeping bags at the same time you are looking for a tent. Pretty convenient if you ask me.
Mega-Stores
Stores like Wal-Mart and other big stores like it are always a good place to find a cheap tent. While the quality might not be as good as tents from sporting goods or camping stores, they are much cheaper and you can still be comfortable out on the campsite in one of them.
Garage Sales
If you enjoy looking around for the best deals available, garage sales are perfect for you. Out of all the options available to you, garage sales are probably the best places to get the cheapest tents possible. People selling items at garage sales aren’t really looking to make a lot of money. They just want to get rid of all their built up stuff they aren’t using anymore. Because of this, you are almost always able to get away with decent quality tents for cheap. Definitely a good idea if you are really on a budget.

Any camping trip is not complete without a solid outdoor lantern. There are many types of camping lanterns available today. You can buy gas lanterns, LED lanterns, solar lanterns, and the list goes on. But which one is the best? Well, it’s not that simple. If you are looking for straight up power, gas lanterns are the best. But gas lanterns can also be dangerous. Solar lanterns are decent, but their light output is usually the weakest of the three.
Personally, I believe a LED camping lantern is a perfect balance. They can be quite powerful and aren’t as dangerous as gas lanterns. They are also very portable because you don’t have to worry about large gas canisters. Of all the LED lanterns I have tried, there is one that really stands out. In this article, I am going to review the Rayovac SE3DLN Sportsman Extreme 3D LED Lantern.
I know what you are thinking. Yes, I know it’s not one of my famous Coleman lanterns. Trust me, I am surprised as well. If you are familiar with this site, you will know that I am quite the Coleman fan, but I have to say that this little camping lantern from Rayovac beats out any other LED Coleman lantern I have tried. That in itself is very impressive, but let’s get down to the details.
Advantages
Since this lantern is quite small and compact, it can fit into the portable camping lantern category. It’s perfect for the hardcore hiker all the way down to the casual camping family. Don’t let its size fool you, however. This guy puts out 300 lumens of light. If you are unfamiliar with this measure, don’t worry. Let me put it this way, it is strong enough to light a pitch black room in a house with no problems. It should have no problem lighting up your tent or campsite.
Another good thing about this lantern is that it runs on 3 D-cell batteries. This is actually quite uncommon. Usually camping LED lanterns jump from using multiple AA batteries to 6 or 8 D-Cell batteries. Since this one runs on 3, you don’t have to carry around a ton of replacement batteries. Also, you don’t have to worry about the longevity of this lantern. It will run for about 72 hours on high and 150 hours on low. I have gone whole summers on two sets of batteries, so you should have no problems there.
If you are looking for a cheap camping lantern, then look no further. This thing is dirt cheap for its quality. Seriously, the manufacturers could double the price and I would still recommend buying it.
Disadvantages
Sadly, nothing is perfect and this camp lantern is no exception. Lucky for you, these disadvantages are quite minor.
First, the lantern has a constantly blinking light. This is designed to help you find it easier in emergencies. It will still blink constantly even if it is turned off. Rayovac says that this blinking does cause battery drain, so if you don’t plan on using it for a period of time, I would recommend taking the batteries out.
The second disadvantage also has something to do with the batteries. I have read quite a few reviews on this product and some people are saying that they have a hard time replacing the batteries due to a weirdly manufactured battery case. It seems that this problem doesn’t occur in every model and someone suggested it is caused by a loose pivot somewhere in the case. If you happen to receive a model with a loose pivot, changing the batteries may be a clumsy operation, but it by no means is enough to use as an excuse not to buy this lantern.
All in all, the Rayovac SE3DLN Sportsman Extreme 3D LED Lantern
is the best camping lantern I have come across so far. I would highly suggest that you pick one up. I guarantee you will not regret it.

A good propane heater is vital for anyone susceptible to cold nights or for people who enjoy camping in other seasons besides summer. There are many different kinds of propane heaters out there and I’m sure a lot of them will be perfect for your situation. However, in this article, I am going to review one in particular that I found to be a little step above the rest that I have owned. The heater in question is the Coleman BlackCat PerfecTemp Catalytic Heater with Instastart Technology.
Throughout my outdoor adventures, I have noticed that Coleman really lives up to its name in producing top quality camping gear. I honestly have not seen another brand come close to the quality of products Coleman constantly produces and this Coleman propane heater is no exception. That being said, let’s get to the heater review.
This heater is nice and small, so it is perfect for heating up your tent, hunting blind, or ice fishing tent. Personally, I prefer using it to heat up my little tent when ice fishing, but I have used it to heat up my sleeping tent on cold nights.
Even though this propane space heater is on the smaller side, it still puts out a toasty 3000 BTUs of heat. That’s more than enough to heat a small tent comfortably. However, if your tent gets a little too hot, the heater comes equipped with high and low temperature settings, so you can adjust it to meed your specific needs.
The Coleman BlackCat is designed to run on 16.4-oz. propane cylinders and will run for about 7 hours. This means if you decide to keep it on all night, you will probably have to change the canister in the early hours of the morning.
Another cool thing about this propane gas heater is that the flame is contained on the inside of the heater, rather than out in the open. You will get an initial start-up flame when you turn it on, but after that there will be no visible flame. All the heat is generated by a chemical reaction between the burning propane and a meshy platinum filter.
However, this heater does come with its drawbacks and dangers. As with all camping heaters, you really want to keep any flammable material away from it. Even though there is no open flame, the grill still gets very hot and is quite capable of igniting something on fire.
Also, if you plan on leaving it running all night, you need to make sure you have proper circulation inside your tent. Propane gas heaters are known to give off carbon monoxide and a poorly ventilated tent enables the CO to stay inside the tent. This is very dangerous. If you are worried, just open the flap on a window slightly and that is enough to properly circulate the air.
Another thing is the price. It is a little more expensive than other heaters. However, I believe that it is worth the price and if you are looking for a really good heater, the price isn’t all that important.
All in all, the Coleman BlackCat PerfecTemp Catalytic Heater with InstaStart Technology
is the best propane heater I have owned to date, and if you are looking for a quality camping propane heater, I strongly recommend it. While you’re at it, you could pick up a quality camping lantern as well!

A folding chair, also referred to a travel chair, allows you to enjoy the outdoors without roughing it. Ideally, it will be sturdy, yet light-weight. Because it folds, it is compact enough to carry on your back, or will easily fit on an all-terrain vehicle like a four-wheeler. Many fold up chairs will come in a drawstring bag or pouch with an adjustable shoulder strap. The weight of chair is of vital importance if you will be walking or hiking to your destination. Obviously, if it will be transported in a vehicle, or a camper, the weight will not be as important.
Be sure the folding chair has a sturdy frame and construction. Light-weight yet sturdy aluminum is a good choice. You want the chair to be light enough to carry, but sturdy enough to support your weight. Keep in mind the weight of the people who will be sitting on the chairs. The tag on the chair will tell the maximum weight capacity.
You will want the fabric to be light-weight for transporting, yet durable and comfortable for when you sit on it. Mesh, canvas, nylon, and polyester are traditional fabric choices for folding camping chairs. Ideally, it will be soft to the touch, yet waterproof and fireproof for evenings around the campfire. This also makes it easy to clean. I would stay away from plastic folding chairs, though. They are better off for lounging on the beach and can get rather uncomfortable when sitting around the fire.
Because there are so many different styles and types to choose from, it is helpful to know what it will be used for. They come in different styles and different heights from the ground. Some sit relatively low to the ground, while others are like a traditional chair height. They also come in kid sizes. A gardening chair, with storage for garden tools, will keep you from kneeling on the ground and injuring your knees or back. A hunting chair, in camouflage, to keep in a tree stand or to sit on in the woods, can have a cover, to provide cover from the elements. A folding bleacher chair, for sporting events, provides cushioning, and keeps you warmer than sitting on metal bleachers. Outdoor folding chairs can be used for fishing, instead of sitting on a hard rock, or be put in a canoe or boat.
You can go beyond the basic folding camping chair. Some options are: a double chair that seats two like a couch, a travel bench that unfolds to seat up to six people, or even a folding beach chair. There is even a folding/walking cane/chair. With a tripod style, it provides a seat when open, and a walking cane when closed. Folding camping tables are also very nice things to have in addition to a chair.
Folding chairs are so versatile that they can be used anywhere: from camping, to the beach, in the backyard, for tailgating with the team logo and name, at outdoor concerts, for additional seating at a picnic, a party or even on your own porch. Some additional features may include: arm rests, leg rests, cup holders, coolers, storage pockets, side tables, canopies, umbrellas, and even a rocking chair version.

Usually, when you pull up to your campsite, the first thing you see is a picnic table. It might be flipped over, right in the middle of the campsite, or blocking the entrance (the last one is the worst, trust me). But, in any case, it’s there.
Picnic tables have become imprinted into my mind as a reminder of fond camping memories and they will always be a staple of any camping experience. However, they are really kind of impractical, aren’t they? Most of the time, they are really beat up and, more often than not, they are unbalanced and wobbly. This poses a problem if you are trying to cook on them. This is where camping tables come in. Save the picnic tables for eating and bring along a camping table or two for cooking and preparing the meals.
So, what makes a certain kind of table a camping table you ask? Well, camping tables can be folded in half, or even multiple times so that they can fit in a bag (I have one of these, they’re awesome). A folding camping table is useful because it can be easily transported to the campground. Imagine hauling a full table that couldn’t fold up to your campsite. You would have to strap it to the roof!
Usually, these tables weigh in at about 14 pounds. This is no problem if you are taking a vehicle to your campsite, but it is a problem if you are hiking. Eating food on your lap is pretty annoying and you usually don’t have a choice when you are hiking. However, there are portable camping tables available that weigh 4 pounds or less. That’s perfect if you are a hiker. Basically, a fold up table like these are made of the same material as those camping folding chairs you always see. They are able to be folded up and packed into a bag which can be carried on your back or slung over a shoulder.
These camp tables aren’t the sturdiest or most heavy duty tables you can buy, but they are good enough to hold your plate and a drink. And that’s all you’re asking of it, right? These hiking tables are usually designed for a single person, but you can find tables that can seat up to 6 people if you are hiking as a group.
Now that you know all about camping tables, you are probably wondering where to buy them. Well, you have a number of choices.
You can go to popular stores like Wal-Mart to find some cheap camping tables. However, I would stick to buying tables from brands that you can trust. If you see an unfamiliar brand on a Wal-Mart shelf, I wouldn’t buy it.
You can also check out your local sporting goods or camping stores. They are guaranteed to have quality merchandise and the staff is more able to help you than at Wal-Mart.
Of course, you can always shop online. I’m sure you can find some great deals on sites like Amazon or Ebay.
If you want some really cheap camping tables, you should check out garage sales or clearance sales at your local sporting goods stores. There are sure to be some amazing deals going on. Happy camping!
